WE HAD OURSELVES A PARTY

We had ourselves a party our friends all came along

So I thought I'd keep the memories and write them in a song.

It all started quietly as parties often do.

But the booze flowed and the music played, and then the volume grew.

As friends arrived from near and far and stumbled through the door

The dogs were hoovering up the food that fell upon the floor.

With caravans parked out the front for friends to stay the night

So more booze flowed and faces glowed, and everyone got tight.

Chorus

Well it's late at night, you're feeling right, and things are going fine.

So just relax, enjoy yourself and pour another glass of wine.

The party now was in full swing and the evening rolled along.

We found some space in the middle of the floor, and danced to every song.

Well it must have been something that I ate that made me feel that way,

'cause I could see two of everything and the room began to sway.

There were people lying all around and halfway up the stairs

But we were all feeling' quite relaxed 'so no-one really cared.

About this time a friend of mine sat talking to the cat

Which would have been quite normal but, the cat was talking back.

Chorus.

Now everything was slowing down as morning came around

But then I got my second wind and started coming 'round.

So we got out the guitars and began to sing and play

And our dogs, who love good music, both got up and walked away.

Well I had such a good time and I'd do it all again

'cause I love good music, food and wine and the company of my friends.

But I find that it gets harder with each year that comes around

So next time I'll take things easy and I'll get drunk lying down.

Chorus.
